- 1). Remove the screws securing the deadbolt faceplate on the inside of the door with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Some deadbolts hide the screws behind a cover plate. Find the seam between the cover plate and the rest of the deadbolt lock. Pry the cover plate off with a flat-head screwdriver to access the screw heads.
- 2). Pull the inner faceplate away from the door and push the outer faceplate away from the door with one of the screwdrivers.
- 3). Insert a large flat-head screwdriver into the semi-circle hole on the deadbolt latch inside the door. Turn the screwdriver counterclockwise to disengage the deadbolt from the door jamb. If necessary, clamp a pair of vise grips around the screwdriver handle to add extra leverage.
- 4). Open the door once you disengage the deadbolt. Remove the screws securing the latch plate to the edge of the door with a Phillips-head screwdriver and pull the deadbolt latch assembly out of the door.
