- 1). Plant short season plants in between taller plants such as tomatoes or corn. the shorter plants will be shaded by taller plants and will benefit from the cooler temperatures that the shade provides.
- 2). Drive a fencepost 1/3 of the way into the ground at each corner of the patch of cool season vegetables using a fence post driver.
- 3). Measure the plot's length. Cut a square of burlap from a bolt of the fabric that is slightly longer than the dimensions of the garden plot.
- 4). Tie the burlap square at the corners to each fence post. The burlap shades the plants beneath from the sun.
