In case you don't know, Hogmanay is the old Scots word for the last day of the year - and you had better believe me when I say that the Scots take this very celebration very seriously indeed.
In fact, New Year celebrations have always been a big thing in Scotland and its thanks to this fact that the Street Party has become world famous as being the place to be when the old year ushers in the new.
However, even when compared to the rest of Scotland, Hogmanay in Edinburgh takes on another dimension.
The street party is well organised and very large, it regularly sees crowds in excess of 100,000 lining the main shopping street where they are treated to live bands, street performers, laser shows and, of course a spectacular firework display that takes place over the famous backdrop of Edinburgh Castle on the stroke of midnight.
If you are a visitor to Scotland then it really is a once in a life time experience and no other New Year celebrations come close in terms of atmosphere, history and just the general warmth of the people, even if that warmth doesn't usually extend to the weather.
If you get the chance to attend this exceptional Edinburgh event then make sure you grab it with both hands.
